Gallium Defense | Lead Mechatronic, Thermal & Packaging Engineer
Join Gallium and turn advanced sensing technology into rugged, deployable products. Own critical design decisions and see your work move rapidly from concept to field-tested systems.
About Gallium Defense
At Gallium Defense, they are rewriting the rules of airspace security in the context of rapidly evolving drone threats. They design and build next-generation, military-grade radar systems that achieve high performance 3D detection at 20% of best competitor’s price.
To support their journey, we're looking for a Lead Engineer to own the mechatronic architecture, thermal management, and product packaging of their sensing platforms. This is a unique opportunity to design products from first principles and transform cutting-edge technology into rugged, deployable systems capable of operating in demanding real-world environments.
The Role: Lead Mechatronic, Thermal & Packaging Engineer
As our Lead Mechatronic, Thermal and Packaging Engineer, you will be responsible for the physical survival, transportability, and thermal endurance of a cutting-edge radar system. You will bridge the gap between high-level conceptual physics and robust, manufacturable defense-grade hardware.
Key Responsibilities
Mechatronic Design Leadership: Lead the mechatronic architecture and end-to-end design of our radar platform, including structural layout and core subsystem integration.
Thermal Management Solutions: Develop, model, and implement simple & efficient thermal cooling solutions (utilizing resilient air and/or liquid cooling technologies) to handle the massive heat dissipation of high-power RF and GPU components.
Ruggedization & Environmental Defense: Design ultra-robust, ruggedized enclosures capable of withstanding extreme tactical environments, severe vibrations (MIL-STD conditions), dust, water, and thermal shock – Keep It Simple and Stupid (KISS) approach
Concept to Production: Utilize your strong design and CAD expertise to turn high-level requirements into manufacturable, cost-effective designs, coordinating closely with cross-functional system engineering, manufacturing teams and end-users.
Profile & Requirements
Master’s degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Automotive Engineering, or related field.
Proven hands-on track record in mechatronics, thermal management, and industrial systems design.
Pragmatic, "get-things-done" designer with a strong systems-engineering mindset. You understand how individual mechanical choices impact the wider system architecture, and manufacturing and servicing complexity.
Expert proficiency in modern 3D CAD software and thermal/structural calculations.
Expert proficiency in developing and maintaining Design Data Package (DDP), Engineering Justification Reports (EJR), Bill of Materials (BOMs), etc.
Practical experience and skills in maintaining assets such as agricultural or industrial equipment, cars, electronics, etc is a massive plus, demonstrating hands-on experience
Fluent in French and proficient in professional and technical English.
Why Join Gallium Defense?
Build products that directly contribute to next-generation sensing capabilities.
Own critical design decisions with visible impact on the final system.
Work on challenging thermal, mechanical, and integration problems.
Collaborate with experts across RF, electronics, FPGA, software, and systems engineering.
Experiment directly in the field, with military end users
Shape both the product and engineering culture of an ambitious deep-tech company.
See your work move rapidly from concept to deployed systems.
If you're excited about designing robust products that bring advanced technologies into the real world, we'd love to hear from you!
