High-Performance Compute Infrastructure Support Specialist
We are seeking a technically capable and hands-on engineer to support and maintain the physical computing platform that powers a large-scale high-performance compute environment. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring the reliability, deployment, and upkeep of critical hardware components that underpin advanced computational workloads.
You’ll work closely with internal technology teams and external vendors to install, maintain, and troubleshoot devices such as servers, network switches, storage systems, and cabling infrastructure. This position focuses on the physical and logistical aspects of high-throughput computing hardware rather than software development.
This is a challenging environment where uptime and quality of execution are crucial. As such, flexibility around occasional out-of-hours work for urgent maintenance, deployments, or upgrades is expected.
Key Responsibilities
Hardware Deployment & Installation
Lead the physical setup of compute and network systems, including racking, cabling, and component assembly.Maintenance & Troubleshooting
Diagnose, repair, and replace faulty hardware; perform upgrades and preventive maintenance across the infrastructure.Vendor & Logistics Coordination
Work with suppliers and service providers to organise deliveries, warranty work, routine servicing, and other support activities.Inventory Management
Maintain visibility and control of hardware stock, understand international shipping and customs factors, and manage physical assets.Large-Scale Project Support
Contribute to significant infrastructure deployment efforts, often involving hundreds or thousands of systems.Infrastructure Design Input
Provide practical insights into equipment selection and configuration based on real-world performance, power, cooling and scalability considerations.
Skills & Experience Required
Hands-On Data Centre Experience: Demonstrated experience working in data centre environments or similarly complex hardware-intensive settings.
Networking Fundamentals: Good understanding of high-speed networking principles, fibre optics, transceivers, and cabling best practices.
Hardware Familiarity: Comfortable working with servers and internal components (e.g., PCIe cards, GPUs, network cards), including setup and troubleshooting.
Logical Problem-Solving: Ability to diagnose and resolve physical infrastructure issues methodically.
Communication: Effective written and verbal communication skills; ability to work collaboratively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Teamwork & Reliability: A proactive and dependable work ethic with a willingness to take ownership of tasks.
Desirable Qualifications (Not Mandatory)
Degree or equivalent industry experience in IT, Electrical/Electronics Engineering or a related field.
Previous involvement in large scale system deployments or infrastructure rollouts.
Experience with advanced cooling solutions or direct liquid cooling infrastructure.
Working Conditions
Primarily based in a dedicated data centre environment with physical access required.
May include on-call duties outside standard working hours, with compensatory time off.
