Mechanical Lead Engineer

The role is based in Finland.
Role:
As Mechanical Lead Engineer, you will steer the mechanical design, development, and licensing of a nuclear reactor and its primary systems. You will build and lead the mechanical engineering team (NSSS scope), define the engineering strategy, and ensure the successful qualification and validation of key reactor equipment. This is a hands-on leadership role requiring strong technical breadth and proven experience in nuclear mechanical engineering.
Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage the mechanical design and licensing activities for a small modular heating reactor.
- Drive the qualification and validation activities for key reactor equipment and the primary circuit.
- Drive qualification, validation, and compliance activities, ensuring alignment with nuclear design codes
- Coordinate multidisciplinary work across internal engineering, external partners, suppliers, and specialist consultants
- Build, mentor, and lead the NSSS mechanical engineering team.
- Ensure strong collaboration across the partner network to execute design, manufacturing, testing, and documentation.
- Oversee mechanical design integrity (including strength analysis, manufacturing methods, welding requirements, materials considerations, etc).
- Support licensing activities and interface with regulatory bodies when needed.
Background and Requirements:
- Relevant degree in mechanical engineering or related field.
- 15+ years of experience in mechanical engineering, with strong expertise in the nuclear domain (nuclear mechanical engineering background is mandatory).
- Broad multidisciplinary knowledge across mechanical engineering (manufacturing, materials, welding, NDT, strength analysis, etc.).
- Understanding of nuclear design codes (ASME III) and the ability to interpret and apply their principles.
- Experience preparing specifications and overseeing design–manufacturing interfaces.
- Proven ability to lead teams and coordinate cross-functional collaboration in a partner-driven ecosystem.
