AESC is looking to recruit a Laser Welding Specialist to join our European Engineering Centre and play a critical role in advancing battery component manufacturing. This role is pivotal in supporting the development and expansion of our gigafactory operations in Europe. Reporting to the engineering leadership team, the Laser Welding Specialist will focus on precision assembly and quality assurance of battery components, contributing to the manufacturing excellence required for our cutting-edge facilities.
The Laser Welding Specialist will initially integrate into the core project team responsible for Europe and UK battery plant launches, providing expertise in laser welding and vision-based alignment systems. The role involves supporting the buildout and commissioning phases of new gigafactories, ensuring seamless transition to full production capability. This specialist acts as a key resource to the functional engineering teams across our regions.
Responsibilities
- Operate and program laser welding equipment to assemble battery components with precision.
- Ensure the structural integrity and performance of welded materials.
- Use vision systems for alignment and quality assurance during welding operations.
- Conduct routine maintenance of laser systems and troubleshoot technical issues.
Qualifications
- Experience with laser welding in manufacturing environments.
- Familiarity with vision-based alignment systems.
- Attention to detail and proficiency in interpreting technical blueprints.
Background and Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in engineering (industrial, electrical, mechanical or chemical engineering)
- Proven experience in laser welding operations, preferably within a manufacturing or high-tech production environment.
- Hands-on experience with vision systems for alignment and quality assurance in welding processes.
- Familiarity with industries requiring precision welding, such as battery manufacturing, automotive, or aerospace.
- Proficiency in operating and programming laser welding equipment for precise assembly.
- Strong knowledge of materials science related to welding, including thermal and structural behavior.
- Experience in routine maintenance and troubleshooting of laser systems.
- Familiarity with vision-based alignment systems to ensure welding accuracy and quality.
- Understanding of safety protocols for working with high-powered laser systems.
Skills
- High attention to detail to maintain the precision and structural integrity of welded materials.
- Strong problem-solving skills to address issues in welding processes or equipment.
- Effective collaboration skills to work closely with production, engineering, and quality teams.
- Experience with automated welding systems or robotic integration is a plus.
- Knowledge of non-destructive testing (NDT) methods to verify weld quality.
- Familiarity with CAD/CAM software for interpreting technical blueprints related to welding operations.
- Ability to work cross-functionally in a multi-cultural organisation.
