The European Head of EHSS (Environmental, Health, Safety, Security) is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing the organization’s environmental, health, safety, and security programs. This role ensures compliance with all applicable regulations, promotes a positive safety culture, and works to reduce our environmental footprint while protecting employee health and safety.
This role can be from one of AESC's EU sites in the UK, France, Spain, or Germany.
Key tasks and responsibilities include:
- Develop and implement EHSS Programs: Design, implement and maintain comprehensive EHSS programs that comply with local, state, and federal regulations. Ensure effective communication to all related employees
- Monitor and ensure compliance with all relevant environmental, health, and safety regulations. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of changes in EHSS laws and regulations and adjust company policies accordingly
- Risk Assessment: Conduct regular risk assessments and audits to identify potential hazards and risks in the workplace. Develop and implement mitigation strategies to reduce or eliminate risks
- Develop and conduct EHSS training programs for employees at all levels. Ensure all related people are knowledgeable about EHSS procedures and are trained in emergency response
- Lead the investigation of EHSS incidents, including accidents, near misses, and environmental spills. Analyze root causes and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence
- Emergency Response Planning: Develop and maintain emergency response plans for various scenarios, including natural disasters, chemical spills, and fires. Conduct regular drills to ensure preparedness
- Promote and lead sustainability initiatives aimed at reducing the environmental impact of the company’s operations, including waste reduction, energy efficiency, and pollution control
- Maintain accurate records of EHSS activities, incidents, and compliance efforts. Prepare and submit reports to regulatory agencies as required
- Lead and mentor the EHSS team, fostering a culture of safety and environmental stewardship. Collaborate with other departments to integrate EHSS considerations into

- Lead all EU Regional EHSS site leaders and their organizations as well as EU Central EHSS roles
Background and Qualifications include:
- Master's or Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, Occupational Health, Safety, Engineering, or any related field.
- At least 10 years of experience in EHSS, manufacturing, quality or similar role with progressive leadership responsibilities.
- Strong knowledge of OSHA, EPA, NFPA and other relevant regulations. Familiarity with EHSS management systems (e.g., ISO 14001, ISO 45001).
- Excellent leadership, communication, and people skills. Ability to analyze complex data and develop strategic plans. Ability to develop and deploy a vision and mission across an organization.
- Experience leading communication with government officials at the state and local level, including specific experience with authority having legal control, Regional Fire Department’s Office, and OSHA officers.
- Experience successfully leading organisations with multi-site direct and indirect reports.
- Proficiency in developing, deploying, and sustaining EHSS software and reporting tools.
- Strong problem-solving abilities, mindfulness, and a proactive approach to safety and environmental management.
- Understands and follows all standards of IATF16949 and VDA 6.3 quality standards. Training and awareness will be provided if not familiar with these standards.

Work at a world-class and innovative Gigafactoryy
AESC is investing almost two billion euros to build a battery manufacturing plant in the Hauts-de-France Region. The new Douai site will have a production capacity of 9GWh in 2024, with the potential to reach 24GWh by 2030 to produce state-of-the-art, low-carbon batteries. The site will initially supply the Renault factory which will be increasingly dedicated to producing the brand’s electric vehicles.
