Our Client is part of a multi-national US owned, Fortune 150 company. We develop, manufacture and market technically advanced industrial lubricants and line marking systems to industries worldwide. The Client has a long tradition of establishing and complying with high standards of business behaviour, standards which often exceed the applicable laws and regulations of those countries in which it operates.

The Position: Sales Engineer

The purpose of the Sales Engineer role is to develop a portfolio of existing customers, seek out opportunities to set up sustainable and profitable growth with new targeted customers across focus segments and through Industrial Distribution networks. The Sales Engineer will also have to implement territory plans to support the region to successfully deliver the annual plan.

Key Accountabilities of Sales Engineer:

  • The Sales Engineer will be responsible for all revenue growth activity in the territory.
  • The Sales Engineer will be in charge of driving profitable growth of the territory by generating end-user demand and creating and converting leads.
  • Monitoring performance and taking steps to develop the pipeline will also be within the Sales Engineer job role
  • The Sales Engineer will be responsible for executing and optimising the channel strategy.
  • Working alongside Segment Specialist to identify and exploit opportunities to grow new and existing business across the focus segments will be a responsibility of the Sales Engineer
  • As Sales Engineer it will be the responsibility of the candidate to promote growth of distributor sales at the branch level by leveraging relationships at the National/Head Office.  Develop and nurture relationships with the current distribution network and key strategic distributor branches.
  • The Sales Engineer will be expected to proactively build customer relationships through influencing, negotiating and creating an environment to maximise account opportunities.
  • The Sales Engineer candidate will be responsible for prospecting and protecting revenue in territory by executing the sales process.
  • Another role of the Sales Engineer is to exploit the Value Propositions to drive value-based sales growth.
  • The Sales Engineer will need to take ownership of customers’ needs and work with the business to expedite the resolution of customer problems and deliver a great customer experience.
  • Providing insight on customer needs, problems, interests, opportunities and competitor activities will also be included within the Sales Engineer job role.
  • As Sales Engineer the individual will be expected to maintain certain Key Relationships both Internally and externally

Qualifications & Education required for Sales Engineer:

  • The Sales Engineer will need experience of identifying updates in the industry or applications and the impact on value proposition
  • Experience of matching products/solutions to meet customer needs to drive sales will be essential for the Sales Engineer role
  • The Sales Engineer will need to be able to effectively prioritise sales time between accounts and other opportunities
  • It is a requirement that the Sales Engineer has proven experience of using sales processes to advance opportunities and gain commitment for agreed next step (e.g. demonstrations, increased volume etc.)
  • Ability to travel and holds a valid driving license is a requirement of the Sales Engineer role
  • It is important that the Sales Engineer is fluent, both verbal and written, in Dutch as well as English & French

Skills/Experience/Knowledge preferable for Sales Engineer:

  • The Sales Engineer will need significant experience operating as valued based field sales professional with ability to position benefits and identify and leverage cross-selling opportunities. Ideally in a technical / differentiated product environment.
  • Good experience of developing relationships and driving sales growth through channel partners (industrial distribution networks) will be beneficial in the Sales Engineer role
  • To be successful in the Sales Manager position the candidate will need excellent communication, influencing and negotiation skills at all levels internally and externally.
  • The Sales Engineer will need the agility to perform within different market segments: e.g. Food, Metal Working and Industrial.
  • Being able to build an effective rapport, as well as understand the customer decision making process and being able to identify customer needs is a necessity of the Sales Engineer role
  • Naturally strong interpersonal skills, forming and maintaining positive relationships with ability to work collaboratively at all levels will demonstrate to the client who the right candidate is right for the Sales Engineer role
  • The Sales Engineer will need to have the ability to effectively utilise tools, information/data, resources and customer data to drive profitable growth in line with the strategy
