Our client, with around 4,000 employees, manufacture, license, support, and sell leading technologies to a wide variety of industries. The industries concerning this position are key markets such as Coatings, Pharmaceutical, & Industrial Applications.

Location: Germany

The Position: Sales Area Manager

The Sales Area Manager maintains and expands relationships with customers in a defined area. The Sales Area Manager represents the entire range of EM products and services to assigned customers, while leading the forecast planning, the customer account planning cycle and ensuring assigned customers’ needs and expectations are met.

Key Accountabilities of Sales Area Manager:

  • A role with the Sales Area Manager job is the regional planning to ensure adequate coverage of assigned territory.
  • The Sales Area Manager establishes productive, professional relationships with key decision makers and influencers at assigned customer accounts.
  • As Sales Area Manager it will be the candidate’s role to coordinate the involvement of Sales, TCS and Marketing, CSR professionals, including support, service, and management resources, in order to meet account performance objectives and customers’ expectations.
  • Meeting assigned targets for profitable sales volume, gross margin and strategic objectives in assigned accounts will also be the role of Sales Area Manager
  • The Sales Area Manager will overlook market development including identification and acquisition of new customers, build strong opportunity pipeline!
  • The Sales Area Manager will be expected to proactively lead a strategic account planning process that develops performance objectives, financial targets, and critical milestones in the selling process related to each target account’.
  • As well as the other role the Sales Area Manager will be expected to proactively assesses, clarifies, and validates customer needs on an ongoing basis.
  • The Sales Area Manager leads solution development efforts that best address customer needs, while coordinating the involvement of all necessary company personnel.
  • Supporting Marketing as required, in expanding into new market segments will also be within the Sales Area Manager role
  • It will be the Sales Area Manager’s job to ensure compliance with all Safety standards and initiatives. 
  • It will also be the role of Sales Area Manager to provide business and activity metrics as and when requested by Sales Management
  • It is an expectation of the Sales Area Manager to attend industry-related symposia and tradeshow events.
  • Utilization of Customer Relationship Management (Sales Force) system will also be within the Sales Area Manager role

Qualifications & Education required for Sales Area Manager:

  • The client is looking for an individual with a four two university degree in Chemistry, Business/Economics or similar qualifications from an accredited institution or a comparable educational background to fill the Sales Area Manager position
  • It is a requirement that the Sales Area Manager has a minimum five years of sales experience in a highly competitive business-to-business sales environment, ideally within the chemical industry.
  • The Sales Area Manager will need fluent English language skills in speaking and writing

Skills/Experience/Knowledge preferable for Sales Area Manager:

  • Ideally the client is looking for an individual with strong business acumen with broad global perspective on customers & end user industries/markets to fill the Sales Area Manager position
  • The Sales Area Manager will need to be an excellent communicator with the ability of working with customer teams within the EMEA Region & partly globally.
  • As Sales Area Manager the candidate will work closely with Customer Service Representatives, TCS and Marketing to ensure customer satisfaction and problem resolution
  • The Sales Area Manager will need to be capable of handling a variety of non-product sales related aspects like responsible care initiative, legal aspects, sustainability, Quality etc.
  • Entrepreneurial thinking, open minded, flexible mind set are all skills that will assist the Sales Area Manager
  • Willingness to travel 3-4 days/week of the time is required for the Sales Area Manager
  • Complying with all internal and external safety regulations pertaining to environmental protection and occupational & traffic safety according to the EHS system and ensuring that the staff assigned to the executives receive up-to-date training; directly pointing out and stopping identified mistakes or wrong behaviour is a requirement for the Sales Area Manager role
  • When necessary, the Sales Area Manager may need to take over additional tasks in related or other projects
